Who We Are

| Staff and Board |

Parkinson's Association of West Michigan is a non-profit organization funded solely by donations. We're committed to helping Parkinson patients and their families understand Parkinson's disease, because understanding is the key to living with it.

Parkinson's Association of West Michigan is this area's clearing house for Parkinson's disease information. Our meetings feature programs on physical and speech therapy, relaxation training and other measures which are important in learning to live with Parkinson's disease. You'll also learn about home health care, and you'll hear presentations by neurologists and other health professionals with Parkinson's experience and training.

Parkinson's Association of West Michigan also maintains a library of materials -- accessible at our meetings or by mail -- to help Parkinson patients and their families learn as much as possible about the disease. And following our meetings we mail a newsletter for members who can't attend. Whatever you need to know about Parkinson's disease, we can help you find the answers.

Coping with Parkinson's disease places a heavy burden not just on patients, but on family, friends and professional health care givers as well. Again, Parkinson's Association of West Michigan can help. Many of us have friends and relatives with Parkinson's disease. We understand your anxiety, confusion and frustration. Through Parkinson's Association of West Michigan, you'll meet other Parkinson patients, and learn how family members can support loved ones who have this disease.

Parkinson's disease demands total patient involvement in determining the best treatment, because the disease and the medications used to control it affect each patient differently. We can help you learn the right questions to ask your family physician or neurologist. And we can help you learn to manage the effects of Parkinson's disease.
